You see dining outside in Spain is about much more than the food. That is great, of course it is. But what you are part of here is pure theatre.

May is a busy time in Spain. The weather is getting warmer and the opportunities to eat out increase.

I shall always recall the first time I flew into Lanzarote. The food served up there all those years ago was a world away from what is on offer there now.

They are serious foodies in Valencia. They are very proud of their historical connections to the culinary life of Spain. And they have much to be proud of.

In my continuing mission to point you in the direction of interesting places to visit, and good places to eat, that are just off a Spanish motorway; I suggest you take the turn off for Guadix.

When in Spain, do as the Spanish do. Eat lunch when they do. Try to stay awake long enough to sample a Spanish dinner when they do.

If shopping for fruit and vegetables in Spain where would be your destination of choice? A local market, often held in the open air, or a supermarket?

Whether you like to discover new Spanish wines, or if you simply want to experience new destinations in this vast and varied country; do take a sip of Yecla and Jumilla.

There are some destinations in Spain which, if you are a so called ‘foodie’ you must go to and, once you are there, you will be in no rush to leave.

For, in my experience, there are plenty of good restaurants, cafes or bars located within a short distance of a motorway turn off.
