courgettes

Braised courgettes with thyme

'Thyme' for courgettes

Another great and adaptable Spanish vegetable is the seemingly humble courgette. They grow in vast quantities in Murcia and in other regions such as Andalucia.
I often look at a courgette in a Spanish market and wonder what can be done with it. I've been handed many free in the past by generous neighbours, but I have had to take advice from them when it comes to how best to serve them up.

Pan fried courgettes and butternut squash

A vegetarian halloween

I've still got many courgettes left to play with and now I've been handed a bag of butternut squash to go with them. Not exactly a pumpkin, which you do from time to time see growing on people's allotments, or on their plots of land in my corner of Andalucia. But the more upright butternut squash is a more common sight.

Chicken with Sobrasada Sausage

Meat in a Sausage

I have written on this site about the origins of the Sobrasada sausage and the fact that the island of Majorca lays claim to being the home of the Sobrasada. No sooner had I done so than a Catalan friend called me to say "it's not their sausage, it's ours."
I never thought I would be arguing over a sausage!
