The cooperative's modern installations in Puente Genil, Cordoba.

The olive-growing agricultural cooperative 'Nuesta Señora de Los Desamparados' was founded in 1958 in the town of Puente Genil, where it began its long history of olive oil production.  In time, the cooperative became the largest in Spain in terms of volume of olives processed (reaching a maximum of 36,000 tonnes of olives)  During the 2004/2005 campaign, the cooperative moved premises, taking the opportunity to modernise by installing the most up-to-date technology available.

Today, the cooperative is involved both in the production of olive oil and the preparation of olives for direct consumption.  For the former, the cooperative collects olives harvested by its members, bringing them to be processed at the factory.  The oil is produced exclusively from Hojiblanca olives selected for their quality.  The process begins in the field, with pain-staking harvesting of the olives according to their grade of maturity.  The olives are then macerated within 24 hours of harvest to ensure an oil with the best possible organoleptic properties (smell and taste).  This extra virgin olive oil is then bottled and sold under the brand name 'Codegenil'.

The extra virgin olive oil 'Codegenil' is thus a genuine product of the olive groves of Puente Genil, the town that in 1935 was bestowed with the title 'Optimi Olei Emporium' ('the best olive oil in the world'), thanks to the exquisite quality of the oils produced in the region.  To this day, the title is maintained on the crest of Puente Genil.
